Identity Festival was the first touring electronic dance music festival in the United States, and was founded in 2011. Touring music festivals are generally uncommon in the United States, however the majority of the music festivals held in Australia are typically multi-city tours. In it’s 2011 founding year, the Identity Festival toured over 20 different locations in the United States and Canada between mid July and August. Identity is known for it’s cutting edge electronic headliners, and bringing electronic acts to venues that have traditionally only hosted mega rock and mainstream music concerts. The festival is held during a single day in each city of the tour, making it one of the few single day music festivals in the United States. Identity is scheduled to return for a 2012 schedule, however many of the cities covered in the 2011 tour have been cancelled for the 2012 year.
