Bumbershoot 2012

Bumbershoot1 Bumbershoot FestivalBumbershoot is a music and arts festival that takes place annually during the Labor Day holiday weekend at the Seattle Center. It is one of the longest running festivals in the Unites States of America, and hosts musical genres of Rock, Indie, Folk, Hip Hop, and EDM acts, however, Bumbershoot is not just a music festival as it also hosts many other types of performance art such as theatre, dance, comedy, literary arts, visual arts and more. Tickets range from $45 for a single day, to $165 for a multi-day pass. Attendance numbers have widely fluctuated since the festivals 1972 debut, however the festivals population is currently around 40,000+ per day.

Bumbershoot History:

The Seattle Center, the host venue to Bumbershoot, was originally built for the 1962 World Fair and contains many different stages and theaters near the heart of Seattle, Washington. The Bumbershoot festival began in 1971 and was sponsored by the city of Seattle with a $25,000 grant allocated for the weekends festivities. The arts festival was immensely popular, bringing in an estimated 200,000 festivalgoers by the mid 1970′s over the weekend. By the later 1970′s the City of Seattle began to cut back on the Bumbershoot budget and the festival’s popularity began to wane. The production of the festival was taken over by the non-profit production agency, One Reel, until 2007 when AEG Live was brought in to revive the arts festival. Since then Bumbershoot has been regaining popularity, with 2012 expected to be one of the festivals best years with major musical headlining acts such as Jane’s Addiction, Tony Bennett, Skrillex, M83, Big Sean, and Passion Pit.
